DO YOU REALLY NEED THAT LIFE INSURANCE?
So, I want to talk about insurance... (Coughs and sneezes in controversy).
When I first arrived in Canada, I was shocked by the number of Africans (friends, family, and frenemies) who bombarded me with various 'life' insurance plans. In fact, to this day, thereâs this distant Nigerian cousin of mine whoâs not talking to me 'âcause I refused to throw my common sense in the trashcan and buy the life insurance plan she recommended.
Guess what I soon discovered? 80% of them are pitching this 'great life' insurance plan to you âcause of the commissions theyâll get. Chances are, if you go ahead and buy that plan, youâll have bought something as useless as a chocolate teapot.
Most times, new immigrants are the sweetest and ripest targets because youâre just settling in and donât know much about the life insurance system in Canada.
Do you need life insurance?
Absolutely! Canada is known for its amazing universal healthcare system, but it doesn't cover everything. That's where you need private insurance to protect yourself and your family from unexpected medical expenses, as well as other risks like property damage and liability.
But what kind of insurance do you really, really, really need?
WHAT YOU NEED TO SCALE YOUR CAREER IN CANADA
Building a reputable and well-paying career in Canada requires strategy.
In my little time here, I've seen a lot of new immigrants trying to navigate the job market by winging it.
By all means, go for that networking event, edit your resume with ChatGPT, look for referrals, and do everything they've told you could help you land a job here.
However, there's something better, smarter, and easier you could do: invest in career branding.
If you know you have the right skills but have been struggling to land a good job, this might be the missing piece in your puzzle. We've helped thousands of professionals with better resumes, cover letters, and LinkedIn profiles land high-paying, reputable jobs in Canada with our tailored career branding service .
