I STRONGLY BELIEVED I WOULD NEVER LEARN FRENCH

Back home in Nigeria, I never paid attention in my French classes. Throughout my undergraduate days, I just couldn't understand why some of my friends would subject themselves to the torture of learning French and Chinese.

Now, as I try to navigate the complex waters of the job market in Canada, I finally understand why (Chuckles in humility).

Learning other global languages in addition to your skills sets you 10x ahead of your peers.

Imagine reading a job description on LinkedIn, smiling and excited that you tick all the boxes, only to stumble on a line that says, "Fluency in French is a plus."

Hein ??? You will see a lot of that here.

That's why I urge you to take advantage of this free language training in both English and French through the LINC program. The classes cover various levels, including job-specific language training, and some courses provide childcare and transportation assistance.

Amazing, right? I know. You're welcome!

YES, YOU CAN NOW FIND YOUR LOCAL ETHNIC STORE ON QUIIKMART

Anjola Adeyemi arrived in Canada eager to embrace its rich diversity. He was so confident that he would easily find Nigerian groceries that he refused to shop in bulk from home as advised by his mom.

He soon discovered the shock of his life when he grew tired of eating poutine and was craving delicacies from home. Too late, though, because he realized the hard way that it was super difficult to find Nigerian stores.

Sounds like you? Well, Anjola recently launched a life-saving app called Quiikmart to help immigrants find the nearest local ethnic stores in their province.

“I felt tired just being here in Canada. But gradually I got used to acting the part — the new Canadian grateful to be here. I spoke…”

Adetola Adedipe shares her experience of moving from South Africa to Canada, feeling lost and out of place, until one pleasant day, she decided to confront the pain of leaving home and the struggle of trying to fit in while staying true to herself.
