👻 Goodbye Ghosting! Ontario Makes Job Searches Fairer
Ever been interviewed, then left waiting indefinitely for a reply? You're not alone. But starting January 2026, employers in Ontario must notify all interviewed job candidates about their hiring status within 45 DAYS. That's right; ignoring candidates after an interview (“ghosting”) will officially be illegal.
Think about it: it took actual legislation to ensure companies perform basic courtesy.
Candidates put in significant effort, take time off work, and invest emotionally, yet too often hear nothing back. Now, employers who ignore this responsibility could face penalties from the Ministry of Labour.
Employers everywhere: consider this a wake-up call to treat applicants with fairness and respect.
This new rule is a big win for job seekers:
✅ Fairness: Employers must give you closure after interviews.
✅ Respect: Your preparation and time deserve acknowledgment.
✅ Less stress: Clearer timelines and transparent communication.
👉 While it's only Ontario for now, let’s hope this respectful practice becomes the standard across Canada!
