HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR FIRST WINTER

Honestly, beyond the tips and all, there’s only one sure way I know to prepare for winter in Canada.

Enjoy your summer and then plan to thrive beyond the depression that will give your African ‘toughness’ a run for its money.

Winter in Canada is bloody brutal but it doesn’t have to end your life or leave you stranded hence my reason for sharing these tips.

  1. Layer up and always check the weather forecast: Back home, the weather is pretty much the same round the clock so I never felt the need to download a weather app. Checking the weather forecast every day helps you plan and navigate your day with less shock.

  2. Stick to the subway for transportation over streetcars and buses: Subways are safer and more reliable during winter. Plus, they are underground, so they are less affected by weather conditions like snow, ice, or freezing rain.

  3. Add spikes to the bottom of your winter shoes, so you don't slip and fall. (You’re welcome)

  4. Still want to feel your beautiful face? Wear a mask to keep them warm.

  5. Eat healthy and moisturize!

  6. And most importantly, try to get integrated into a community that cares for you. It can get pretty lonely.

I know I skipped some more generic tips as it relates to home care and all. This article shares more resources to help you navigate winter at work, at home and on the road. Click here to read.
