Bet you didn’t think we’d pop up one more time in your inbox this year, eh? I thought about it, but we’ve been through a lot this 2025, for us to just sign off without a word. But the break is only temporary…
2025 has been some year, and a lot of you have watched us grow since I, Dami, joined the New Local team in May. For those here before, thanks for the warm welcome! Before I took up writing to you every week, I hadn’t touched a community letter of this sort in a while. So it meant a lot that you’d open, click the links and occasionally drop some useful feedback to work with!
We did have some hiccups here and there, and I feel like we’ve earned the type of connection that lets me tell you sometimes I’d spend hours and maybe days staring at my laptop not sure of what I’d send to your very valuable eyes. And some other things too. But I digress.
Like I said, this is the last New Local newsletter for 2025, so I figured it’d be nice if we showed you how the year went down. We are, after all, family, right?

We Wrote A Short Novel
At 48.0k Words written, you could have called us F. Scott Fitzgerald… (the joke here is that The Great Gatsby book is around 48,000 to 50,061 words LOL). And we garnered about 31.3k impressions, views, shares and clicks from all those words!

Correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems like you liked reading New Local, and that warms my heart. I do understand that time is money so maybe 2026 will see less words and more value, but for now, it looks like we’re on good terms.

Here’s What You Loved To See The Most

Well, well, well. How the cookie crumbles. Our most impressions came from the Halloween Newsletter:
👻🎃 Boo!
Get the real scoop on Canadian Halloween, trades booming in Ontario, a super visa update & a poll just for you
Second in the running came from our newsletter to you on finding the cheapest amount to pay for services and some cost hacks (no surprise there, we’re not making this money just to be frivolous)
Spotify, transit, museums, plus PEI’s surprise draw.
And third but certainly not the least was the newsletter on how to stay in Canada. Yet another non-shocker, (why would we want to leave?)
New data on who stays who goes and what that means for your own Canada plan.
If you missed any of these, or need a refresher, now’s your chanceto look through…
International New Local…
Since New Local began, the idea was to create a community for Nigerians (and other Africans) in Canada. In time that demographic focus has changed to include a wider berth. Now, the New Local newsletter still caters to all things Canada, but we’re also looking at ways to bring others into the magic of the Great White North.

It’s safe to say we did exactly that, from what you can see! Come 2026, we’ll look to add some more locations and spread the good word not just about good ol’ Canada, but also, being Nigerian here.
You can help us extend this reach too— by sharing with your friends and family!
🖱️Clickworthy
If you’re familiar with email marketing lingo, CTR is probably the most valuable metric next to how many opens you can get. If you’re not, it pretty much shows how interesting enough the links you’ve added to a post are; so much that folks want to see exactly what’s in there!
This year, the newsletter with the most clicks was our post on letting Canada be your sugardaddy (career-wise)

By The Numbers…
Of course we can’t talk about the year without all the newbies we welcomed to the New Local fam! Working on NL is such a joy, and in October we were had the most additions to the community!

Shout out to all 332 of you New Locals! Here’s to more!
Invasion!
This is probably my best part of our recap! We grew New Local by a fair bit from where we were at at the start of the year. And now with our current numbers, I’m glad to announce that we can lay siege and take over some towns! LOL

The town of Talkeetna better watch out!

👀 What’s in store for 2026?…
Well, we’ll just have to stick around and find out! I already mentioned we’d be looking to get more reach, but how we do that is only a matter of you being here to see it. And also how well you can toot our horn (wink wink).
But, it looks like it’ll be amazing. How am I so sure? We’ve got YOU on our side. And that’s all that matters. There’ll be stories, collabs, and of course, resources to boot! As always the goal is to make Canada home for you and yours; and we won’t stop until all the chickens come home to roost. And that’s on Mary had a little lamb.
Thank you for reading, and all the support. Have a wonderful holiday. See you in 2026!
